3 Great Ways to Save Money for a Down Payment

3 Great Ways to Save Money for a Down Payment

Looking to buy a home this year but finding your savings to be lacking in funds? Whether you’re looking to put down three percent or twenty percent towards your home, here are 3 great ways to save money for a down payment.

1.) Build an Account: Build your down payment savings stash by setting up a designated account that pays the most interest possible. It’s important to set up an account solely for your down payment so as not to be tempted to take money out for other uses. It’s also recommended that you establish an automatic draw that automatically funnels money monthly, bi-monthly or weekly from your checking account.

2.) Assistance programs: There are literally thousands of down-payment-assistance programs that exist to help buyers come up with the costs associated with home buying. According to RealtyTrac, there are over 2,000 available programs across the country. Sites like Down Payment Resource are designed to help connect people with hard to find financial resources and helps deliver a list of programs for which you may be eligible for and contact information for participating lenders in your area.

3.) Cut costs: Can you squeeze more savings out of your cellphone plan? What about cutting out Starbucks, and getting a new estimate on your car insurance. Anytime you can reduce the costs of your monthly expenses, take that little extra that you’re saving and bank it into your savings account. Saving $25 a month on a lower bill may not seem like much but after a year that’s an extra $300 more that is available towards your down-payment goals. Got a raise or a bonus coming up? Pretend like it never happened and have the difference between your old and new paychecks automatically transferred into your down-payment savings in a virtually painless way.

5 Tips to “Bee” Safe this Summer

5 Tips to “Bee” Safe this Summer

Local Arizona news has been abuzz with stories about bee attacks and hive recoveries all over the valley lately. And Arizona locals know that as the temperature starts to rise unfortunately so does the number of bee encounters around the Valley of the SunEl Mirage Fire Department officials say they are ready and equipped to perform rescues and provide emergency treatment due to a bee attack.

But the only reason the fire department would “foam the bees” is for rescue purposes, officials said. Any other situation such as having bees in a tree is not considered a bee emergency and may require a professional bee control company, they said.

The El Mirage Firefighters offer these 5 tips to “bee” safe this summer:

1.) Run for shelter: If bees get riled up, the most important thing to do is run away as fast as possible and find shelter as soon as possible. Take refuge in a house, tent, or a car with the windows and doors closed.

2.) Don’t be a fool: Bees are smarter than they look. Do not try to stand still in an attempt to fool the bees. Do not try to fight the bees.

3.) Avoid water: If you’re enjoying one of the many beautiful Arizona lakes, please know that they will not provide refuge from a bee attack. Although it may be tempting, do not jump into water. Bees will wait above the water until the person comes up for air.

4.) Cover up: If you’re a victim of a bee attack, grab a towel, blanket or shirt to cover your face. The stings on the chest and abdomen are far less serious than those to the facial area.

5.) Seek help immediately: Once away from the bees, evaluate the situation. If stung more than fifteen times, or if there are any symptoms other than local pain and swelling, seek medical attention immediately. If there are other people being stung or you think others are in danger, call 9-1-1 immediately.

For more information, visit www.cityofelmirage.org or call the El Mirage Fire Department at 623-583-7968. Please stay safe this summer and always “bee” aware of your surroundings. - Lisa

The Median Sales Price of $204,000 in March was also higher than last year by 8.5%.  With a higher rate of sales, the resulting Months Supply of inventory fell further to 3.7 on a scale where 6.0 months indicates a market balanced equally between buyers and sellers.

“The prime selling season this year is starting with a bang. After a harsh winter, it appears many consumers are eager to get out and shop for a new home, despite lingering inventory issues and rising prices. The many positive stories we’re hearing from our agents across the country are reflected in these very impressive March numbers.”

Dave Liniger, RE/MAX, LLC CEO, Chairman and Co-Founder

Every metro experienced double-digit month-over-month sales increases except Baltimore, which saw an 8.4 percent monthly increase.
